Congratulations to Van Vleck High School AP US History/R US History/ Psych/Soc teacher, Mrs. Kami R. Bludau, for receiving the award for the VFW Post 2438 Teacher of the Year for Matagorda County tonight at the annual VFW award banquet.

Van Vleck Junior High Math Teacher, Michael Polachek, and Van Vleck Elementary Reading & Language Arts Teacher, Patricia Cegielski, were also VFW nominees that were considered for the overall award and are two of the most outstanding teachers at Van Vleck ISD and in Matagorda County.

The VFW Post 2438 award committee chose Mrs. Bludau as the 2021 recipient as she models the highest of standards in professionalism, commitment to student success, and ensures that students gain a strong understanding of the principles of patriotism and pride in our nation’s history.

Mrs. Bludau teaches with passion as she provides engaging instruction about the importance of knowing American history. She also emphasizes the importance of voting and participating in civic duties, understanding of the election process, voter registration, voting process, serving at jury duty, registering for Selective Service, and educating students on US Armed Forces opportunities.

Mrs. Bludau finds ways to extend learning beyond the classroom by helping students understand how they can have an impact through local and state government entities.

Mrs. Bludau’s steadfast commitment to the perpetuation of patriotism and civic mindedness in youth directly reflects principles of the Veterans Of Foreign Wars and is eligible to receive the Smart/Maher VFW National Citizenship Education Teacher Award as well.
