We are thrilled to announce that Mrs. Krysten Carey, VVHS math teacher, has earned the esteemed title of National Board Certified Teacher. On December 7, 2024, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) revealed the names of teachers who successfully met the rigorous criteria to achieve this remarkable certification and Mrs. Carey is one of them!
This achievement comes on the heels of House Bill 3, passed by the 86th Texas Legislature, which allows teachers to earn a distinguished status on their certification by completing the National Board Certification process. This certification involves a highly demanding, multi-faceted process, requiring teachers to demonstrate mastery in four key areas: Content Knowledge, Differentiation in Instruction, Teaching Practice and Learning Environment, and Reflective Practitioner.
National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education and provides numerous benefits to teachers, students, and schools. It was designed to develop, retain and recognize accomplished teachers and to generate ongoing improvement in schools nationwide.
As of now, there are 1,384 National Board Certified teachers in Texas, with an additional 86 candidates in progress. Mrs. Carey stands out as one of the accomplished few who have successfully navigated the challenging journey and she is happy to be at Van Vleck ISD.
