\r\n\tCongratulations Van Vleck ISD and Van Vleck Elementary School on being named a 2016 National Blue Ribbon School.
U.S. Education Secretary John King, Jr. made the announcement in September. Van Vleck Elementary is one of only 279 public and 50 private schools receiving this honor. Van Vleck Elementary was one of the schools nominated by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) for this award based upon student performance in 2015. TEA invited Van Vleck ISD in March of 2016 to submit an application for possible acceptance as a National Blue Ribbon School. A team of Van Vleck ISD staff members worked together to complete the comprehensive application by the March deadline. Third Grade Teacher Shelley Miller, Principal Sarah Roper, and Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Federal Programs attended the presentation ceremony on November 8 in Washington D.C. They were presented with a plaque and National Blue Ribbon School Flag. Mr. John R. O’Brien, Superintendent of Schools said, “this award is but one indication that the strong foundation skills we teach, aligned with the Van Vleck ISD School District curriculum, parent involvement, community and industry support, and the students’ hard work, and staff dedication are all helping our students district-wide succeed. We are proud of Van Vleck ISD as a whole: Van Vleck Elementary, E. Rudd Intermediate, O.H. Herman Middle School, and Van Vleck High School for all their hard work. The district is rich in tradition, and everyone including the bus drivers, custodial team, IT department, nursing team, food services department, support staff, teaching staff, and administrators strive to maintain excellence and pride. The mission of the entire district is to provide for the total development, enhance student learning skills, and nurture a positive self-esteem for ALL students. The staff uses the I.M.P.A.C.T. theme to instill in their students an internal motivation and desire to successfully grow individually as well as to contribute positively to the world around them. Van Vleck Elementary has attained the highest level of achievement of “Met Standard” the last three years with distinction designations in: Academic Achievement in Reading/English Language Arts, Top 25 Percent: Closing Performance Gaps, and Post-Secondary Readiness, in the last two years. Van Vleck Elementary received an “Exemplary” rating twelve years prior. Van Vleck Elementary is recognized in Texas as a Blue Ribbon school. Another recent accolade for the school includes being selected by Educational Results Partnership (ERP) and the Institute for Educational Productivity (IPE) as one of 713 public schools in Texas to receive the title of 2015 Honor Roll School. Van Vleck Elementary also recently received an esteemed award from TEA for being named a 2015-2016 High Performance School as well. Van Vleck Elementary continues the tradition of representing the district, county, state, and nation with commitment and excellent performance by the students and staff.
